What is Infertility?
Infertility is defined as being unable to get pregnant despite having frequent, unprotected sex for at least a year. It may be due to a single cause in either male or female, or a combination of factors. Female infertility factors contribute to approximately 50% of all infertility cases, and female infertility alone accounts for approximately one-third of all infertility cases.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture, frequently combined with herbal medicine, has been used for centuries to treat infertility. Research studies have shown acupuncture can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate a thick, rich lining. Acupuncture also can stimulate functions of hypothalamus and pituitary gland to release neurohormones and in turn regulate ovulation. Acupuncture can also improve semen volume and sperm density and motility in men with infertility. Thus, individual could benefit from acupuncture and herbs.
